Fresh Lumpiang Ubod (Palm Heart) Recipe

Fresh lumpiang ubod is one of the popular varieties of LUMPIA in the Philippines. The main ingredient of this recipe is the heart of the palm called “ubod”.

Below is a very special lumpiang ubod recipe shared by Ms. Janice Bicaldo Sanchez of Quezon City, Philippines.

Lumiang Ubod Filling


* Onion -minced
* Garlic -minced
* Salt
* Ground pepper
* Oyster sauce
* Liempo -sliced into thin strips
* Ubod (palm heart) -sliced into thin strips
* Baguio beans – sliced diagonally
* Sweet potato -sliced into strips
* Tofu -sliced into 3 become thin.
* Lettuce – washed and drain


1). Deep fry the sweet potato and tofu.

2). Sliced fried tofu into thin strips and set aside.

3). Heat oil and saute the onion and garlic.

4). Add the pork and season with salt and ground pepper. Simmer until meat is tender.

5). Add the palm heart and baguio beans. Stir and cover. Simmer until half tender.

6). Add the tofu and sweet potato. Stir again and season with oyster sauce according to taste.

Lumpia Wrapper

What you will need:

* 2 cups of water
* 1 1/2 cups of flour
* 1/2 cup of cornstarch
* 2 or 3 med.eggs
* 4 tbsp of  oil.


1). Combine all the ingredients and mix well.

2). Slightly oil the pan and heat for 3mins.

3). Pour 1/4 cup of batter.

4). Tilt the pan to spread the batter evenly to create a round shape. Do not turn.

5). Cook for 3mins.or until its not stick on the pan.

6). Continue until all batter are consume.

How To Make Lumpia Sauce

What you will need:

* 2 cups of water
* 8 tbsp.of soy sauce
* 3/4 cup of brown sugar
* 1/2 tsp.of salt
* 4 tbsp.of cornstarch (dilute in water)


1). Combine the first 4 ingredients.

2). Bring to boil for 5mins.

3). Pour the cornstarch gradually in sauce pan until sligthly thickens.

4). Just add soy sauce and sugar according to your taste.

REMINDER: Do not put too much cornstarch because it will solidify when cold.

Lumpia Toppings

What you will need:

* Peanut -chopped ( I used blue Happy or Sugo salted peanut)
* Fresh garlic -chopped

How to prepare:

1). Spread the wrapperand put on the lettuce

2). Generously spoon on some vegetables for filling.

3). Fold in the lower portion of the wrapper and roll up the both sides snugly.

4). Put the sauce on top and sprinkle with garlic and peanuts.

Ready to serve!
