Pichi-pichi is an authentic Filipino dessert or delicacy. Pichi Pichi is made from coconut and cassava or kamoteng kahoy. This is considered as one of many variants of the famous “puto” of the Filipino people. Pichi pichi originated from the province of Quezon.
* 1 – 1/2 cups grated cassava
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 bundle of pandan leaves, boiled in 2 cups water until reduced to one cup, and cooled ( or canned pandan concentrate, or a few drops of pandan essence in a cup of warm water)
* 1/2 tsp lye water “lihiya”
* grated coconut for topping
* food coloring (optional)
Pichi Pichi Cooking Instructions:
1). Mix the sugar and the pandan flavored water and mix until sugar is dissolved.
2). Mix in the cassava and then add the lye water drop by drop mixing well as you do so.
3). Pour into a mold or bowl that fits your bamboo steamer.
4). Steam until the mixture becomes translucent.
5). While still hot scoop out the cooked mixture (use ice cream scoop or a tablespoon the same size as the scoop) and roll into grated coconut.

aww, pichi-pichi! this food is very memorable to me and my officemates. haha. we had a small fight because i told them i don't like pich-pichi to be served on our christmas party, some of them went ballistic because it's their favorite. inaway nila ako. LOL.
I forgot what we used to call this in Davao, but I like this very much. Anything made of cassava is yummy to me.
Hi! I am here again. I'm your new follower. hehe.
Isa yan sa mga fave ko. I used to make pichi-pichi for merienda pero hindi na ngayon, bumibili na lang. Nakakatamad kasi, igi-grate pa yung cassava. I like it either with grated fresh coconut or cheese. 🙂
I hard to do so…takes a time but if its cooked na..gosh..you can't wait to eat. i love it and my daughter, my grandchildren including my son in-law..they love it!
ask lang, kailangan pa ba pigaan ng bahagya ang cassava?
I tasted this pichi pichi 3 years ago while on vacation in the Philippines and my husband and I just loved it. It took 3 years before I learned the name from friends and this time I will try to cook the recipe for Christmas.
yummy, I think I have eaten this before. I always thought it is difficult to do it. Thanks for making it simple. Christmas is around the corner and I sure want to try doing it.
Oh so yummy..
