Playing With Food Isn’t Always A Bad Thing

Parents always tell their kids not to play with food and for good reason. Food is precious and a lot of people work hard just to be able to eat three square meals a day, especially in poverty stricken countries. However, in this article, I’m going to prove that playing with food can be a good thing especially if you’re going to do it to brainstorm for new dishes.

When I say “playing with food,” I’m not talking about poking that meat and veggies on your plate. I’m talking about playing a game that can help you create new dishes. So if you’re feeling a bit adventurous and want to be able to whip up something new, you might want to try this game called… The Bingo Recipe Creator Game

Bingo is such a flexible game that it can be used even in the brainstorming process of new dishes. According to Free Bingo Hunter, a portal for many online gaming providers, the centuries-old game has been customized into many different forms so it’s not surprising that some people actually use it to spark creativity.

To start playing the game, you must first print out blank bingo cards. You can find some printables at the Free Printable Bingo site. You won’t need actual bingo balls for this game. Instead, you will use small pieces of paper that contain some of the most popular Filipino ingredients such as garlic, red onions, soy sauce, atsuete, etc. You can use as many small pieces of paper as you like. Just make sure to write a unique ingredient on each. Crumple all the papers and then put them inside a small box.

When you have the cards and “paper bingo balls,” you can start the game. Draw one paper ball from the box, uncrumple it, read what’s inside, and write the ingredient on any of the blank boxes of a bingo card. Keep drawing balls and writing ingredients until there’s no more space on the card. Now here’s the fun part: you must use all of the ingredients under a winning bingo pattern (vertical, horizontal, diagonal, box, cross, etc.) in your next dish. So if you’ve decided to go with horizontal and the ingredients written on that pattern involve salt, butter, mangoes, kangkong, and chicharon, you must come up with a dish made with them. It can be an appetizer, main dish, or dessert. It’s up to you!

It would be great if everyone can try this game and share their newfound recipes. Are you willing to try this game to create new Filipino dishes? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
