Sinanglay Na Tilapia Filipino Recipe

Ginataang Munggo Filipino Recipe

Ginataang Munggo (Monggo) is one of a kind Filipino delicacy. It can be eaten as a dessert and also perfect as merienda for Filipinos. This Filipino food is a combination of toasted munggo (mung beans) and malagkit (glutinous rice) cooked in coconut milk.

Ginataang Munggo is cooked like how Ginataang Mais is cooked except that the latter uses corn instead of mung beans.

DJ Maria Maldita Food Blog Interview - Know More About Her Food Trips And Favorite Filipino Recipes



Not so long ago, we featured an interview with DJ Kristine Dera about her favorite Filipino foods and recipes. She dishes out interesting information about her life and choice of foods and recipes as well. Her fans and followers love it and they think, we must do some interview again with the other radio DJs. Well today, that request is fulfilled.

This blog is proud to present to you this food interview with one of the Philippines' celebrated Radio DJ/Host - Jonaphine Caraan or much popularly known as Maria Maldita. Here it goes.

1). Please tell our readers a little something about yourself?

Hi there Everyone! Im Maria Maldita of Yesfm 101.1, Your Hayahay station ( Its a Bisaya word meaning relax, chill) My Program is kwentong Powerful--kwento mo, kwento ko, magkwentuhan tayo every Mon's-Fri's 3-6pm and Sunday 6:30-mostly until 10pm if its Over Time. My Program is all about Trivia's, Different Stories, those that are kakaiba, or should we say amazing stories, well, anything goes with my program as long as you have a story to tell that can be entertaining or informative.

I also Do Hosting/VO for an Event, Product Endorser, may it be on Radio or in Print ( I Still Dont Have a TV Commercial,hahaha) and a TV Host at RHTV for BFF (Beauty, Fun and fashion). I also have my Own Business, I Supply Siomai and Siopao around Metro Manila (Hopefully I can expand my business in Mega Manila Soon) and I Have my Online Apparel Shop. In Short im an Entrepreneur, Naks!ahahha

I also Graduated Communication Arts at DLSU-Dasmarinas. Animo! hehe

And Im From Calamba, Laguna though my Mother is from Cavite and my Father is from Batangas. So you can imagine how silly my punto is. hehe


2). Knowing that you are a DJ and you spend a lot of time on air, do you still have the time to cook for yourself? If none, then who do the cooking for you?
Hindi ako marunong Magluto!ahaha The only food that i can cook are egg, hotdog and Pansit canton. Nothing More! Epic fail.ahahah Its my Mom, my Auntie and my Fiance who do the cooking for me. The only help I give them is preparing my baon and eat all of it. Thats it!ahahaha


3.) What are your favorite Filipino foods? From appetizer to desserts.

I Love all Kinds of food! Especially Sinigang, Adobo, anything with miso; like Tuna Belly sa Miso etc. Ginataang Hipon and Dinuguan. I Just Dont eat Okra, but aside from that lahat kinakain ko na. I Loooooooove to eat!Dun mo ko maasahan!hahha



4). What is/are your best selling Filipino recipe/s or specialty/ies that your friends/relatives loves the most when you cook it and share it with them?

Epic fail ako dito...ahaha but I promised to myself that this year I will try my Very Very Very to the Highest Best not to scream kapag may tumatalsik na mantika. ahaha 'll learn how to cook....soon!hahaha


5). Have you eaten any Filipino exotic food? If yes, then what food it is?
I Think waley pa. :P But I Love to try! kaso kasi kapag gutom na gutom na kung san sanay dun na kumakain,ahahaa! But, They said the Palaka taste good!
6). What other Filipino foods you really want to learn cooking?
My Fiance's Favorite Food, Sinigang and Kare-Kare. Ofcourse pa tweetums sa kaniya.ahahah

DEFINETLY! 100% SURE!ahahaha. How? Dahil kayo ang expert, susunod lang ako sa nababasa ko kasi nga i Know nothing when it comes to cooking. Taga kain lang ako. ahahahah

Ginataang Mais - Sweet Corn with Coconut Milk Recipe

Ginataang Mais or Sweet Corn with Coconut Milk is one of a kind Filipino dessert recipe that is usually served as a snack or merienda. Ginataang Mais, as the name of the food and recipe implies it, mainly consists of a combination of corn (mais) and coconut milk (gata).

* 1 can coconut milk
* 3/4 cup glutinous rice or malagkit
* 1/2 cup ripe langka or jackfruit strips (optional but highly suggested)
* 1 cup sugar
* 6 cups water

Ginataang Halo Halo - Guinataan

This ginataan halo halo recipe is one of a kind Filipino recipe that is best served as dessert and merienda as well. Also, it can also be served either hot/warm or cold.

Guinataang halo-halo main ingredients are bananas (saging na saba), kamote (sweet potatoes), gabi (taro), sago (tapioca balls) and bilo-bilo (sticky rice balls) that is cooked in sweetened coconut milk.

Ginataang Alimasag (Crabs In Coconut Milk)

Love sea foods and coconut milk? Then, this is the perfect recipe for you! Ginataang Alimasag is one of the most sought after Filipino recipe. The coconut milk over the alimasag is really a good combination for a yummy dish perfect for lunch. Below is a simple and easy to follow ginataang alimasag recipe.

Note: You can also substitute crabs with either shrimps or mussels.

Ginataang Alimasag Recipe Ingredients:

* 1/2 kilo fresh alimasag (talangka or crablets)
* 1 cup thick coconut milk
* 2 cups thin coconut milk
* 4 pcs jalapeño pepper
* 5 cloves garlic, minced
* 1 onion, sliced
* 2 tbsp ginger, minced
* 6 pako (fern) leaves and stalks
* salt to taste

Ginataang Alimasag Cooking Procedure:

1). Wash crablets thoroughly with tap water. Drain.

2). In a saucepan, put thin coconut milk. Add jalapeño pepper, garlic, onion and ginger. Let it boil.

3). When the cream (coconut milk) is boiling, add pako leaves and stalks.

4). Simmer over low heat for 15-20 minutes. Stir to prevent sauce from clotting.

5). Pour in thick coconut milk. Add crablets. Simmer, stirring occasionally until sauce becomes thick and oily.

Best served with hot plain rice. Enjoy.

Ginataang Tilapia

Tilapia cooked in coconut milk or simply ginataang Tilapia is one of the famous Tilapia cooking method in the Philippines. This method is popularized by the Bicolanos, and I can say that, Bicolanos do have the greatest ginataan dish I ever tasted; Bicol express in particular. As usual, this Bicolano recipe have a spicy and sweet taste attached to it.

Ginataang Langka Recipe

Ginataang Langka (Unripe Jackfruit in Coconut Milk Cream) is one of the best dishes in Bicol. Two of its main ingredients are coconut milk and sili. Below are the ingredients and the steps on how to cook Ginataang Langka.

Ginataang Langka Recipe Ingredients

* 1/2 kilo langka meat (raw, unriped, washed and cleaned)
* 3 pieces laurel leaves
* 1 tablespoon leeks (chopped)
* 1 small red onion (diced)
* 1 cup dried fish (flaked)
* 2 cups coconut milk (1st extraction)
* 1 cup coconut milk (2nd extraction)
* Pinch of salt and pepper

Ginataang Langka Recipe Cooking Instructions

1. In a deep casserole, boil langka meat until tender.
2. In another casserole, saute onion, leeks, laurel leaves and dried fish.
3. Add in langka and pour in coconut milk (1st extraction).
4. Bring up to a boil for 5 minutes.
5. Lower heat and simmer for another 5 minutes.
6. Season with salt and pepper.
7. When cooked, pour in coconut cream of 2nd extraction and cook for 3minutes.

Enjoy your Ginataang Langka, best served with hot plain rice.
